Yes. Under Japanese law, all customers are required to provide their Individual Number (commonly called “My Number”). This obligation applies when you register or send money with Kyodai Remittance.
What is “My Number”?
“My Number” is a 12-digit personal identification number issued to every resident of Japan, including foreign residents with a resident record. It is similar to a social security number in other countries and is used for official procedures, such as taxation, social security, and certain financial services.
Why is My Number Required?
Providing your My Number is required by Japanese regulations to:
comply with the Act on the Use of Numbers to Identify a Specific Individual in Administrative Procedures, and
meet reporting and customer verification requirements tied to anti-money-laundering and tax laws.
What counts as proof of My Number?
You can provide your Individual Number Card (My Number Card) if you have one. If you still have the older notification card (paper card) and the information on it (name and address) matches your current certificate of residence, it can be accepted as proof of your Individual Number.
Important Notes
The My Number Card is not mandatory to hold under Japanese law, but you must still provide your Individual Number for Kyodai Remittance registration and transactions.
If you do not already have a My Number Card, you can use other documents that show your Individual Number (such as a certificate of residence listing your My Number) along with your identity verification documents as required.
